Wheel-throwing

Theresa Gong Porcelain

Thank-you for checking into my blogspot.

I make functional pottery on a potters wheel or slab roller.  I am currently working with a Cone 6  porcelain  clay body from Archie Bray in Helena.  My designs  are carved into colored slips and fired with a high glossy glaze in an electric kiln.

The Design Process

After a piece  is thrown on a potters wheel, I paint a thick layer of colored slip over the entire white clay body.  My designs and motifs are carved thru this slip.  A glossy glaze is applied over the slip design and fired to 2200 degrees faranheit.

new kiln

Just got back from Seattle where I bought  a new  kiln.  Its an oval Seattle Pottery Kiln, model 25 or 30.   Been frustrated having to re-do and replace all the electrical parts  on my old kiln  after every firing.  Seems like a lot of good deals for used kilns out on Craigs list now.....Maybe cause it's hard time for artists....?  Hope shows are good this summer....
