Wheel-throwing

Theresa Gong Porcelain

Thank-you for checking into my blogspot.

I make functional pottery on a potters wheel or slab roller.  I am currently working with a Cone 6  porcelain  clay body from Archie Bray in Helena.  My designs  are carved into colored slips and fired with a high glossy glaze in an electric kiln.

The Design Process

After a piece  is thrown on a potters wheel, I paint a thick layer of colored slip over the entire white clay body.  My designs and motifs are carved thru this slip.  A glossy glaze is applied over the slip design and fired to 2200 degrees faranheit.

On the road again

I'm  now in Jackson Hole for the  Artfair this weekend.   In spite of  extra heavy traffic and road construction, the drive thru Yellowstone Park and  Teton National Park  was still beautiful.

I had a great last weekend at the Butte National Folk Festival.  Fantastic old town full of history, ghosts, old souls, colorful and  courageous  people. I greatly appreciated the kind and enthusiastic responses to my work from the people at the show.

I've been  busy  making pottery between weekend shows, trying to replace inventory. Hopefully I'll  have enough for my last show in Sweet Pea, Bozeman.
